Hormone pellets: risks and side effects
The most common effects are acne, more body hair, mood changes and soreness at the placement site. Women may have uterine bleeding, and men may have more red blood cells and lower fertility. That is why evaluation and follow-up are needed.
At the placement site
Bruising, infection or a pellet coming out.
What studies show
A study published in the journal Menopause found more abnormal uterine bleeding in women on pellets than on FDA approved treatments. It was a retrospective study from one institution, but it deserves attention.
Who should not use them without a specialist evaluation
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Hormone sensitive cancer.
- Blood clots, or heart or liver disease.
How I reduce the risks
I evaluate first, review lab work and follow up with you. See how hormone pellets in Miami Lakes work.
When to request an evaluation
If your symptoms have lasted weeks and affect your sleep, mood, work or relationship, you do not have to wait until they get worse. At the evaluation I review your history, your medications and the lab work that applies to you, and I tell you clearly what I found and what options you have.

Would you like a visit in Miami Lakes?
Your safety comes first. Pellets are placed only after my evaluation and your lab work, and not everyone is a candidate. Hormone pellets prepared by compounding pharmacies do not go through the FDA review that approved medications have. Like any hormone treatment they have risks and side effects, and other options exist. Results vary from person to person.
Frequently asked questions
